The child completes the 12 magic pictures by following the arrows listed below the grid. These either point up, down, left or right initially. Then diagonal lines are also included. These arrows need to be copied onto the grid in sequence, resulting in a picture. Not only does the child have to copy the directions correctly, but s/he also has to work in sequence, copying one arrow after the next arrow. This task requires concentration, fine motor co-ordination, directionality, the ability to draw diagonal lines and a systematic work approach. The activity can be extended into a fine motor task, by allowing the child to colour/paint the picture. The child can glue the picture onto cardboard and sew on the lines. The picture can also be used as a basis for a VMI task by allowing the child to copy it as a free drawing.
